Recall and Recall Health

GS1's Recall and Recall Health notification systems are streamlining product recalls to improve our health supply chain, and ultimately patient safety.

Therapeutic product recalls are critical to ensuring patient safety and ensuring those recalls are notified as quickly and accurately as possible is vital.

HPV plays a key role in driving supply chain reform in Victoria's health sector and supports Recall Health (formerly known as Recallnet Healthcare) as a key enabler of supply chain reform and also a critical patient safety initiative.

Recall Health is used for electronic therapeutic recall notifications.

HPV is extending this commitment to implementing Recall (formerly known as Recallnet), for non-therapeutic product recalls through services contracts such as catering supplies.

HPV is proud to partner with the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA, formerly NEHTA), GS1 Australia, and Victoria's Department of Health and Human Services to implement this pivotal national quality and safety initiative in Victoria.

255 suppliers and 66 Victorian health services are currently live on Recall Health.

How do the Recall and Recall Health portals work?

Both Recall portals allow sponsors to create recall and non-recall notifications that follow the recall procedures of the appropriate industry regulator, as well as submit recall notifications directly to the regulator for review and approval.

For Recall Health, this is the Therapeutic Goods Administration's (TGA) Uniform Recall Procedure for Therapeutic Goods (URPTG) guidelines.

For Recall this is Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) and the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC).

As well as streamlining the recall process, the Recall and Recall Health portals deliver recall information to the correct contact person via their direct email address, improve the timeliness of the recall process using email and SMS notifications, and ultimately improve the reliability and visibility of the system to ensure patient safety.

How do I register for Recall and Recall Health?

The process for registering for the two portals is slightly different:

  • Recall Health: Health services eligible to register for Recall Health through HPV can register online via the Register for Recall Health page.
  • Recall: Health services eligible to register for Recall through HPV should complete the GS1 Recall Registration form (available for logged-in users only) and then submit the completed form to HPV via the Register for Recall page.
