HPV’s role in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic

HPV’s priority throughout the COVID-19 pandemic is to support Victoria’s public health services in maintaining continuity of supply.

The Victorian Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) has tasked HPV with helping to establish a centralised ‘buffer’ stock of essential items to provide for a potential rise in COVID-19 cases.

However, HPV advises suppliers that their first priority should be to fulfil health services’ usual stock requirements. We are working with our suppliers to monitor stock levels and ensure BAU requirements are met.

Most suppliers are prioritising health service customers and deliveries are based on previous ordering patterns to ensure orders can be met wherever practical.

The HPV team is also in frequent contact with health services and monitoring any potential product shortages.

As the situation evolves HPV will inform suppliers of any government advice we receive on how stock will be distributed, to ensure health services receive items according to need.
