Suppliers reminded to publish data on National Product Catalogue

Health Purchasing Victoria (HPV) is reminding suppliers to publish product and pricing data on the National Product Catalogue (NPC) to meet contractual obligations and realise business benefits through the Common Catalogue.

Common Catalogue video2

The Common Catalogue draws data from the NPC and will provide a single source of pricing and product information for the Victorian public health sector, resulting in supply chain efficiencies and ultimately better patient outcomes.

HPV is now working with a number of metropolitan and regional health services to adopt the catalogue in stages over the next two years.

We are also working with not-for-profit standards organisation GS1 to assist suppliers in uploading their information to the NPC and supporting Melbourne Health in implementing their Warehouse Management System initiative which requires data from the NPC.

As health services roll over agreements or establish new contracts using the Common Catalogue, they will expect suppliers responding to tenders to have published their product information in the NPC.

The catalogue will benefit health sector businesses in a number of ways, by:

  • Minimising duplicate products.
  • Reducing the number of calls/emails between health services and suppliers.
  • Increasing invoice pricing accuracy.
  • Supporting an easier transition to electronic data interchange (EDI).
  • Providing up-to-date pricing schedules that HPV has uploaded for our contracts.
  • Increasing data accuracy leading to improved data analysis.

For more information about the Common Catalogue see the frequently asked questions section on the HPV Help Centre which includes an animation produced by GS1 explaining how suppliers’ product and pricing data flows through to health services and their use of it.

To find out how to upload your information on the NPC, contact GS1 at npc@gs1au.org to get started. If you already publish data on the NPC and want information about updating it, contact GS1 at npccustomersupport@gs1au.org.

HPV acknowledges the efforts of top-performing suppliers who have been working hard to deliver high quality data in the National Product Catalogue (NPC). This month’s leading suppliers are:
